carbs - slow down

Carbohydrates release energy to the body and the brain. Pick the ones that last longer like Slow Carbs. These are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Slow Carbs take more time to digest, leading to a steady release of energy throughout the day.

Reduce Fast Carbs, like sugar, white flour, white pasta, white rice, white potatoes, French fries, cookies, pastries, ice cream, sweets, soft drinks, energy drinks and most cereals. They all cause blood sugar spikes, make children fat and deprive them of energy. Fast Carbs can also create mood swings and concentration problems.

These are whole grains, brown rice, nuts, lentils, peas, beans, veggies, bulgur, sweet potatoes, quinoa, whole wheat couscous, buckwheat and high fiber fruits like apples, avocados, bananas, berries, pears, etc. A Golden Rule: the less processed, the better!
